Tech-enhanced Life Launches Useful Apps Club to Help Older Adults Learn How Mobile Apps Can Make Everyday Tasks Easier
SAN FRANCISCO, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Many older Americans and Baby Boomers have embraced smartphones and tablets, but feel as though they're still missing out – that they aren't getting the most benefit from these technological wonders. To address this issue, Tech-enhanced Life has created the Useful Apps Club. The membership-based club consists of a community of analysts who curate the instructional materials and monthly app selections. Members can also connect with each other to share insights and helpful tips.

"If you don't feel you are really getting the full benefit of your smartphone or tablet right now, then the Useful Apps Club might be for you," explains Dr. Richard G. Caro, co-founder of Tech-enhanced Life. "We're also catering to people who don't have a mobile device but have toyed with the idea of acquiring one. Many would-be buyers worry that the learning curve of a smartphone is too steep to justify the cost."
The Useful Apps Club has been designed with all skill levels in mind. Guidance is available for those entirely new to mobile devices. On the other hand, older adults who have achieved proficiency with their mobile devices are equally welcome to join the club. Experienced, skilled users have much to offer their peers.
Members of the Useful Apps Club receive a monthly email containing an introduction to a new app or group of apps. The email will include links to video lectures, audio discussions and online lessons that explore the app's full capabilities and benefits. Interactivity is an important component of Tech-enhanced Life's approach to teaching people about the universe of mobile apps. After absorbing the instructional material, club members will have an opportunity to ask questions or add comments, then receive answers and feedback from Tech-enhanced Life analysts or their peers.
According to Dr. Caro, the Useful Apps Club will likely focus on particular themes each month. The ultimate goal will be to give mobile device users a "toolbox" of apps to better accomplish everyday tasks such as reading fine print, getting a ride, navigating a new city or staying connected to far-away family members.
"We expect the Useful Apps Club to become an organic, positive community," concludes Dr. Caro, "and to advance our mission of helping older adults improve their lives with technological tools."
