SAN JOSE, Calif., April 11, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., representatives from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and Working Partnerships USA will protest outside a Chipotle Mexican Grill in San Jose, Calif. Chipotle purchases produce from salad processing giant Taylor Farms, a company that has drawn scrutiny for food recalls, safety and health violations and worker abuses.
Taylor Farms has recalled more than 150,000 food items in recent months. An outbreak of E.coli was linked to celery processed at Taylor Farms in Tracy, Calif., infecting 19 people in seven states. Chipotle has had its own share of food safety problems, with hundreds of customers and employees becoming ill from norovirus and E.coli.
Taylor Farms is also being prosecuted for over 50 violations of federal law that protects workers' rights. Protestors will demand that Chipotle live up to its proclaimed values and ensure that its supplier Taylor Farms treat its workers with integrity.
