Teamsters Urge Los Angeles City Council to Approve Super Shuttle Contract
Working Families Should Come First
ORANGE, Calif., July 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Teamsters Local 952 is urging the Los Angeles City Council to approve a contract extension for Super Shuttle, which provides shared, van-ride service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the surrounding region. Teamster members work for Super Shuttle, many of whom have been with the company for several years.
"We welcome the approval this week for an extension of the Super Shuttle contract from the Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee to the Los Angeles City Council," said Patrick Kelly, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 952 in Orange. "We want the Council's first priority to be the well being of Los Angeles city residents."
Don Brewster, vice president of Teamsters Local 952, Eric Henry, business agent of Teamsters Local 952 and Charzetta Lee Bhatt, a shop steward at Super Shuttle all spoke at the public comment period before the Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee made their decision.
The LA City Council passed, in May, a resolution which prohibits doing business with corporations in the state of Arizona. Since Super Shuttle is based in Arizona this automatically places them at odds with the resolution.
"We believe that working families come first," Kelly said. "Our members at Super Shuttle work hard and deserve to be able to continue their employment. We call upon the LA City Council to consider the hardship they will cause to Los Angeles residents if they do not approve this contract."
