Joint Council 7 represents more than 88,000 members throughout Northern California and Western Nevada. Teamsters Western Region Vice President Rome Aloise, who is also President of the Joint Council, was to be joined by Chuck Mack, a former Teamsters Western Region International Vice President who retired in January and now serves as the Co-Chair of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Fund.
"The Special Olympics have always played an important part in my family and the Teamster family," Mack said. "We have been big supporters. I am pleased to be able to donate this money to an outstanding organization."
The money donated to the Special Olympics of Northern California was raised at a dinner to honor Mack's retirement from the Teamsters Union in January of this year. Special Olympics of Northern California Executive Vice President Mary Beth McMahon accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.
"This is reminiscent of Chuck's career with the Teamsters -- he has always put the needs of others before his own," Aloise said. "Raising funds for the Special Olympics and for disaster relief in Haiti at his retirement dinner is a true reflection of his character."
Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
