"Twenty-one DHL workers in Turkey have been fired since they initiated an organizing drive in April, 2012," said William Hamilton, Director of the Teamsters Express Division. "DHL management has responded with confrontation and refusal to recognize their new union."
The Teamsters Union stands along with unions in Germany, Europe and worldwide in demanding that corporate management in Germany intervene, but so far the requests have been met with silence.
Various DHL unions worldwide, coordinated through the International Transport Workers' Federation, are coordinating the International Day of Action (petition drives, pins/buttons/stickers, etc.) in solidarity with DHL workers in Turkey. Additional information on the struggle can be found at www.respectatDHLturkey.org.
Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Visit www.teamster.org for more information. Follow us on Twitter @Teamsters or "Like" us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/teamsters.
