IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Freedom Innovations, LLC, a leading developer of high technology lower-limb prosthetic medical devices, announced today that Richard Browne won the silver medal in the highly anticipated 100 meter race for T44 below-the-knee amputees at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Browne was the first athlete to utilize Freedom Innovations' groundbreaking Catapult® Running Foot at a Paralympic Games.

In one of the pinnacle events of the 2012 Paralympic Games, Browne was considered a new name on the ticket, racing against 100 meter favorites such as world-record holder Jonnie Peacock and defending Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, the South African amputee sprinter who also controversially competed in the 2012 able-bodied Olympic Games. Browne seized the opportunity by winning silver with a lightning-fast time of 11.03 seconds.
Browne, a below-the-knee amputee due to a traumatic accident in 2009, has taken the world of track & field by storm. He attributes much of his success to a team of supporters including prosthetist Brett Lee, C.P., of ProCare Prosthetics in Jackson, Mississippi and prosthetic manufacturer Freedom Innovations which developed the Catapult Running Foot he used to compete in the games. As the first sprinter in the world to train with the Catapult Running Foot, Browne says he trialed a variety of prosthetic running blades before determining that the new Catapult Running Foot was the best and most energy efficient choice for him.
"The Catapult design is completely different than what my competitors use," stated Browne. "The shape of the carbon-fiber blade is designed to provide up to 30% more energy return and it directs that energy in a more forward motion down the track. This design has helped me to shave off time throughout the year and ultimately propelled me to a silver medal for Team U.S.A."
"I couldn't be more proud or more excited to represent my country at the 2012 Paralympic Games," Browne stated. "I feel truly blessed and thank all of those who've helped me come so far in such a short time."
