TD Bank's New Store in Bethesda is Committed to Your Health

BETHESDA, Md., April 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 15, TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, will open the first retail bank location in the United States targeting WELL Certification – Pilot Program, focused on human health and well-being.

The WELL Building Standard™ (WELL) is the first protocol of its kind to focus exclusively on enhancing people's health and wellness through the design and operation of a building. WELL focuses on integrating specific design elements, technologies, and conditions into the architecture and operation of a space with the goal of enhancing the health and well-being of occupants.

WELL is grounded in evidence-based medical research that demonstrates the connection between buildings – where we spend more than 90 percent of our time – and occupants' health and wellness. WELL focuses on seven categories of building performance: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.

In Bethesda, TD Bank is pursuing both WELL and LEED certification. These complementary programs further the sustainable building movement and demonstrate a commitment to doing what is best for the planet and the community. By implementing WELL retail standard, TD Bank is making health and wellness a priority in their green building design and operation.

The new store at 7628 Old Georgetown Road incorporates more than 65 WELL and LEED features, including:

• Enhanced filtration and cleaning protocols to improve indoor air quality and make it easier for customers and employees to concentrate
• Paints, finishes and cleaning products selected with low environmental impact on indoor air quality
• A water purification system that eliminates typical contaminants and sediment levels found even in drinking water that meets EPA standards.
• Access to daylight, glare control on the windows, and lighting systems that support the body's natural circadian rhythm, psychological health and improve alertness throughout the day
• A green roof, which helps reduce the distribution of dust and dirt throughout the surrounding area, diminishes the production of smog and lessens greenhouse gas emissions.
• A living wall of flowering Virginia Creeper ivy mitigates our impact on the public storm sewer by holding and slowly releasing storm water from our green roof.

Grand Opening Celebrations Scheduled for Saturday, April 16

To celebrate the bank's newest retail location in Bethesda, TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, will host a grand opening celebration on Saturday, April 16, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 7628 Old Georgetown Road (at Woodmont Avenue).

Entire families – including pets – are invited to participate in the grand opening celebration, which is free and open to the public.

Local charities will be on hand for an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:00 noon:

• Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District
