Inspired by the legend of the samurai, this elegantly effective trio -- INDIGO Soothing Silk Hand Cream, INDIGO Soothing Silk Body Butter and INDIGO Soothing Renewal Treatment -- is comprised of three breakthrough products created to soothe and protect dry, irritated and sensitive skin.
Distinctive in color, Indigo has long been regarded for its deeply soothing and restorative powers. During the Edo Period, Japan's noble Samurai wore a layer of indigo-dyed cotton beneath their armor to help heal injuries; in Japan, the color Indigo is often referred to as "Samurai Blue."
As synthetic dyes became more prevalent, fewer farmers grew indigo and the legendary benefits began to fade away, largely forgotten by modern generations until TATCHA founder Victoria Tsai discovered a reference to its anti-inflammatory properties in a 200-year old beauty manuscript.
In 2012, the Journal of the American Medical Association published studies that found patients with severe dermatitis showed between 74 and 81 percent improvement with a topical ointment made with natural indigo.
Each of the INDIGO creams includes pure indigo extract combined with liquid silk and TATCHA's signature HADASEI-3 Complex – a proprietary anti-aging formula of Green Tea Complete DNA, Okinawa Red Algae and Japanese Rice Bran extracts -- for maximum soothing benefits.
TATCHA products are non-irritating, non-sensitizing, dermatologist tested, and are formulated without mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, urea, DEA, TEA or phthalates.
ABOUT TATCHA – TATCHA was founded in 2009 by Victoria Tsai, who was travelling the world in search of the purest, most effective skin care ingredients. While in Kyoto, Tsai discovered the ancient world of the geisha, renowned for centuries for their flawless skin. Through her research, Tsai unearthed a 200-year-old beauty manuscript detailing their secret beauty and grooming rituals. Consulting with teams of scientists and researchers, Tsai recreated the recommendations with rich bioactive formulas, including a proprietary extraction process of Green Tea, Okinawa Red Algae and Rice Bran.
