Tampa Law Firm Ayo & Iken Retained in George Zimmerman Divorce Case
Noted Florida law firm will represent George Zimmerman in pending divorce proceedings.
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The law firm of Ayo & Iken PLC has been selected by George Zimmerman to represent him in his pending divorce case. The firm has designated a three-person legal team to review the case and address preliminary issues.
Included in the team are the firm's partners, Attorney Howard Iken and Attorney Alberto Ayo.
"We have begun by requesting that the court set aside the default currently in place against Mr. Zimmerman. That requires a showing of a meritorious defense, excusable neglect, and due diligence," says Iken.
The circumstances under which their client was served with divorce papers prevented him from filing a complete and timely response, adds Iken. He notes that there are also significant asset and debt issues involved which will need to be resolved by the court, and that the petition filed by his spouse, Shellie Zimmerman, understates these while ignoring other pertinent issues.
"It is clear that Mr. Zimmerman has a meritorious defense and Ayo & Iken will aggressively fight to defend his rights. We will work zealously to obtain a favorable result for Mr. Zimmerman," says Ayo.
The case may take the better part of 2014 to resolve, according to Iken. "But we strongly believe Mr. Zimmerman deserves to move on with his life, and we will do everything necessary to achieve for him a fair and timely solution," he says.
