Take Stock In Children President And CEO Madeline Pumariega Appointed As Florida College System Chancellor

MIAMI, May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Education Commissioner Pam Stewart announced the appointment of Madeline M. Pumariega, President and CEO of Take Stock in Children as the next Florida College System (FCS) Chancellor. As Chancellor, Pumariega, will serve more than 800,000 students at 28 colleges throughout the state.

As President and CEO of Take Stock in Children since 2013, Pumariega has led the operational, financial and legislative efforts of Florida's premier scholarship and mentoring program. Take Stock in Children has a 20-year history of breaking the cycle of poverty through education that leads to well-paying jobs.

Before coming to TSIC, Pumariega spent 20 years at Miami Dade College (MDC), most recently as President of the Wolfson Campus. She is regarded for her work in developing innovative approaches to support academic progress and students success, ensuring thousands of youth can access and complete college.

Pumariega is a board member of City Year Miami, serves on a steering committee for The Miami Foundation, is a member of the International Women's Forum (IWF), and is part of Leadership Florida Class XXXIII.

Pumariega, who will be the first woman and Hispanic to hold the office of Chancellor of the Florida College System, is scheduled to assume the position in September.
