Tableau 9.1 Delivers New Mobile Experience and Easier Access to Any Data
Visual analytics improvements and new enterprise capabilities complete update
SEATTLE, Sept. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA) today announced the general availability of Tableau 9.1, making it easier for people to analyze data from any source while in the office or on the go. New capabilities give people more ways to answer questions with data, an entirely new mobile experience, new options for connecting to data and easier security and authentication for the enterprise.
"Tableau 9.1 builds on our mission to help people see and understand data, no matter where the data resides and what device they're using," said Chris Stolte, Chief Development Officer and co-founder of Tableau Software. "We've made significant investments in enterprise features and an entirely new mobile app. We also created a web data connector that helps developers extend Tableau to connect to a limitless number of sources from Facebook to Twitter and Google Sheets. New native connectors to critical data sources such as SAP and Google Cloud SQL are also included."
The Tableau Mobile App is completely redesigned to make it easier for people to find, interact with and manage content on the go. Offline Snapshots save favorite views that can be seen offline at any time.
"We built a dashboard that dynamically calculates price realization across all of our markets and channels on the fly and deployed it on Tableau Mobile. My boss can run the report from his iPad in Maine on the weekend," said Kris Munson, Director of Strategic Pricing at Watts Water Technologies.
Tableau 9.1 continues to build on enterprise-class Tableau Server, providing more flexibility for companies to more easily manage their deployments. Capabilities such as Single Sign On for SAP HANA and support for SAP variables, Mutual SSL Authentication, Product Updates, Scheduled Active Directory Sync, and Rest API updates make it easier to deliver self-service analytics at scale.
Tableau continues to deliver on its mission to help people see and understand data whether that data is on premises or in the cloud. Tableau 9.1 provides more connectivity options and opens up new opportunities to connect to any web data through the web data connector.
"The web data connector helps people choose and connect to any data they want to use," said Craig Bloodworth, Chief Technology Officer at The Information Lab, a Tableau partner. "We've already seen a plethora of connectors being built, from Fitbit to Facebook, Quandl to Import.io...and we're just getting started. What's amazed me is how quickly the connectors have been produced without the need for programming skills. I've been inspired to create visualizations of my own quantified self data, something that I've never done in my previous five years of Tableau use. The web data connector is indeed another great leap for Tableau."
In addition to the Web Data Connector, the update includes new native connectors to Google Cloud SQL, Amazon Aurora and support for several data services from Microsoft Azure.
In Tableau 9.1, people can ask and answer more explicit questions with geographical data, generate histograms with less effort and take advantage of user experience improvements. The Story Points experience has also been updated with a new, smooth auto scroll experience and colors and color behavior updates so navigation buttons are always readable and beautiful.
