PARIS and NEW YORK, June 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- EcoVadis is the leading platform for environmental, social and ethical performance ratings for global supply chains, out of only six companies in the world that meet the highest standards for enterprise sustainability ratings, according to a new report published by the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC).
The assessment was led by the Committee on Supplier Ratings (COSR), a collaborative project co-convened by the SPLC, the Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings (GISR), and the Electronics Industry Citizenship Coalitions (EICC), to explore the application of enterprise-level sustainability ratings typically created for investors, purchasing and supply chain management. A multi-stakeholder group was tasked with identifying rating organizations who follow the highest sustainability principles.
According to the SPLC, "The independent assessor found that EcoVadis achieved the highest score on the SPLC Supplier Ratings Framework assessment, with solid organizational structure, transparent rating methodologies, scalability, good company engagement and consistent performance… The EcoVadis team has an extensive track record rating over 30,000 companies and is uniquely focused on enabling purchasers to manage the ESG performance of their supply chains."
The SPLC framework, developed by Industrial Economics, Inc., ensures the ratings systems it evaluates are of high quality, impartial, focus on relevant ESG issues and are appropriate for use in purchasing and supplier engagement.
"SPLC members tell us they recognize the value of using shared platforms for rating their suppliers' sustainability performance. It reduces survey fatigue, improves the data available to buyers, allows the cost of verifying data to be shared, and more," says Sam Hummel, SPLC's CEO. "Before this project, purchasers would have to do a lot of research to identify the third-party rating tools that are best-in-class and most suitable for use in procurement decision-making. Purchasers say they appreciate that we've simplified that process dramatically. We think it will lead to many more organizations adopting these platforms."
"Improving environmental, social and sustainability outcomes across the supply chain requires strong, and actionable supplier ratings and information," said EcoVadis co-CEO Pierre-Francois Thaler. "We will continue to invest in our ratings and research methodology to ensure that all procurement teams have the best possible insight at their disposal and are fully equipped to increase performance."
