SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunnyvale Community Services today thanked LG Electronics USA and Fry's Electronics for providing a new state-of-the-art, ultra-large-capacity, four-door French-door refrigerator stocked with 47 gallons of milk to help feed the hungry and provide additional refrigeration space for the organization to store food donations.
"We are thrilled to receive the generous donations from LG and Fry's," said Marie Bernard, Executive Director of Sunnyvale Community Services. "The 47 gallons of milk will immediately go out to our families in need, and the refrigerator is essential in storing all of the perishable food items that we get donated to be given to our families and seniors."
The donation of LG's ultra-large capacity French-door refrigerator will offer additional storage for perishable food donations, as well as extra nourishment for those in need, by providing ample space to keep a variety of donated food items fresh and conveniently organized for those receiving aid from Sunnyvale Community Services. The energy-efficient refrigerator includes two bottom freezer drawers to store items that are larger or require longer-term storage. The Energy-Star rated refrigerator has a capacity of nearly 28 cubic feet, offers more usable refrigerator shelf space that can accommodate up to 47 gallons of milk, which was also included as part of the donation.
"In today's economy, more and more people rely on organizations like Sunnyvale Community Services to help feed their families," said John Weinstock, Vice President of Marketing, LG Electronics USA. "Partnering with Fry's, we felt that a donation of a fully stocked, ultra-large capacity refrigerator would be an excellent way for us to make both an immediate and long term contribution to assist in the fight against hunger, as we offer a large quantity of nutritious fare, as well as something to help the organization continue to provide fresh food to families in need."
"Hunger and homelessness affect even prosperous communities like Sunnyvale and the greater Silicon Valley region," said Kathy Kolder, Executive Vice President and co-founder of Fry's Electronics, Inc. "We are pleased to partner with LG Electronics USA in the donation of a refrigerator, stocked with milk, to Sunnyvale Community Services. Fry's celebrates its twenty-sixth year anniversary this week, and it is only fitting that we make this donation to Sunnyvale Community Services which has been serving families and seniors, where Fry's Electronics began, since 1970."
