Sub-Zero and Wolf Announce Winners of Kitchen Design Contest
MADISON, Wis., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Sub-Zero, Inc. and Wolf Appliance, Inc., industry leaders in refrigeration and cooking appliances, have revealed the national award winners of the biennial Sub-Zero and Wolf Kitchen Design Contest.

- First Place – Contemporary: Jose Eduardo Calma of Lor Calma & Partners from Makati City, Philippines
- First Place – Traditional: Vasi Ypsilantis of The Breakfast Room Ltd. from Manhasset, New York
- Second Place and Designer's Choice Award Winner: E.J. Meade, Claire Jordan, and Ken Andrews of Arch 11, Inc. from Boulder, Colorado
- Third Place: Robin Pittman of Design Galleria Kitchen & Bath Studio from Atlanta, Georgia
New for the 2008-09 contest, two first-place national winners were selected, one for a contemporary/minimalist kitchen and one for a traditional/transitional kitchen – each was awarded a cash prize of $15,000. The second-place national winner (any style kitchen) received $10,000, and the third-place winner (any style kitchen) received $5,000.
"There is nothing in the industry on this level like the Kitchen Design Contest for us to showcase our work," said Vasi Ypsilantis, first-place winner. "The quality of architecture and design of the kitchens that are submitted in this contest are really top of the line. I have clients who are very particular and specific; Sub-Zero and Wolf give me such peace of mind because their appliances set the bar so high."
The Designer's Choice Award, a special award honor that is selected by the design community via an online voting system, increased to $15,000, up from $5,000 previously. This year, more than 2,000 designers voted online for their favorite kitchen design.
"The Designer's Choice Award was particularly rewarding. To be recognized by our peers for what we love to do makes all the work worthwhile," said E.J. Meade, second-place and Designer's Choice Award winner. "We love the craft of designing streamlined, restrained spaces. Sub-Zero and Wolf products are perfectly suited to helping us achieve that."
Out of more than 1,400 entries, a panel of judges who are distinguished professionals in the kitchen design arena selected 50 regional finalists in late January. The regional finalists received a $500 cash prize and a trip for two to The Breakers for a four-day celebration last month, where the judges reassembled to determine the national winners.
