MAHWAH, N.J., Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Stryker Orthopaedics, the Official Joint Replacement Products of the PGA TOUR® and PGA TOUR Champions, today announced it will be making its debut appearance at the PowerShares QQQ Championship – the opening event of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. For the very first time, the company's onsite activation - the Stryker Mobility Zone – will be present for golf fans to engage with, in an effort to continue Stryker's mission of educating golf fans on the importance of joint health across the country. While on-site, local surgeons from the Southern California area will be able to address fans' questions regarding hip and knee pain.
Throughout the tournament, the Stryker Mobility Zone will aim to enhance golf fans' experience through the Stryker Challenge - a series of golf-inspired activities designed to address the importance of joint health and mobility. Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to enter for the chance to win a trip for two to TPC Sawgrass to play alongside longtime Stryker ambassadors Fred Funk and Hal Sutton.1,2
"This is the first time in 2016 that we've had the Stryker Mobility Zone on the west coast, proving that Stryker is truly committed to connecting with fans nationwide," said professional golfer and Stryker GetAroundKnee® recipient, Fred Funk. "Through their on-site presence at the tournament, anyone experiencing joint pain will have the opportunity to talk to a local surgeon about potential treatment options. For me personally, having my knee replaced in 2009 with Stryker has allowed me to continue to perform competitively."
Fred Funk, a Stryker brand ambassador since 2011, is one of the most recognizable names and personalities in professional golf. Funk underwent total knee replacement in November 2009 and received Stryker's GetAroundKnee®, becoming the first player ever to win a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event after total knee replacement surgery. During his career, which spans more than 20 years, Funk has won eight titles on the PGA TOUR, including THE PLAYERS Championship in 2005, and six titles on PGA TOUR Champions, including the 2009 U.S. Senior Open.
Throughout tournament week, fans will have the opportunity to purchase the same hat that Fred Funk wears on tour at the Stryker Mobility Zone. For every hat purchased, Stryker will make a donation to K9s for Warriors, a nonprofit organization which is dedicated to providing service canines to military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disability, traumatic brain injury or other military trauma as a result of military service post 9/11.
