Structural Change Is the Defining Element of the 2010 Landscape for Automotive Suppliers
DETROIT, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- "The 2010 landscape for automotive suppliers will bear the scars of a chaotic 2009, but will be defined by stronger suppliers, new suppliers and new commodities moving from OEMs to the supply base, " said Scott Ulnick, Chairman and Managing Partner of Ducker Worldwide, in the Society of Automotive Analysts Media Roundtable held today in Detroit, MI.
Ulnick discussed the critical factors that led to uncertainty and chaos in the marketplace in 2009. He then outlined what the supply base will look like moving forward. "The industry was choked by overcapacity; as capacity is removed from the marketplace that means fewer suppliers," continued Ulnick. "But at the same time OEMs are pushing non-core components down to the supply base. Value-added consolidation will be the hallmark of the next decade. That means more than just taking out capacity; it means making sure that best practices and model plants are not swept away by the tsunami of consolidation and liquidation."
