Strong Momentum for Blackboard Open Source Solutions
Over 110 new customers since January 2015
INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard today announced that during 2015 more than 110 new customers have chosen one of its Moodle-based solutions to deliver a superior learning experience for their learners. Active in the open source industry since 2012, Blackboard's open source solutions, which include Moodlerooms, NetSpot, Remote-Learner UK and Nivel Siete, support more than four million users and over 1400 schools, government organizations, and private businesses worldwide.
The University of Montana has been using Moodlerooms for a number of years. With around 14,000 students, the University of Montana provides instruction across a broad range of categories, including the trades, liberal arts, graduate and postdoctoral study, and professional training. "Over the years, the Moodlerooms solution has helped us deliver quality learning opportunities to a highly diverse student population," said Robert Squires, Director of Instructional Design and Technical Support at the University of Montana. "Thanks to its ease of use and mobile-friendly themes, we are providing our students with access to the learning environments they need to be successful."
The University of Montana works with Blackboard in connection with the Moodle Collaborative Accessibility Group to develop prototypes and features to improve the usability of Moodle for all users. "We are happy to see that the work we're doing is impacting more and more users around the globe," added Squires.
Middlesex University has more than 40,000 students and staff, and a global reach with four campuses across the world in London, Dubai, Mauritius and Malta. "We wanted to provide our students with the contemporary and pedagogically sound educational experience they are expecting from us," said Alex Chapman, Head of Technology Enhanced Learning at Middlesex University. "Moodlerooms has enabled us to focus on creating this new experience and transforming how we deliver curriculums, thanks to a cloud-based platform that is constantly updated and tailored to the needs of learners and teachers."
"This outstanding result is the latest evidence of the success of our open source offerings around the world. It testifies to our ongoing commitment to the Moodle community," said Jay Bhatt, CEO of Blackboard. "At Blackboard, we put the learner's needs and success at the center of all we do, and we are focused on delivering a New Learning Experience to all learners, including those who use a Moodle-based platform. Our open source solutions are key to our strategy; we will further invest in their development and in the growth of our dedicated team."
