Director Court Crandall, Partner and Executive Creative Director at ad agency WDCW (http://www.wdcw.com/), and writer of other feature films such as Dreamworks' "Old School," conceived and raised funds for the scholarship grant and production expenses from some of the wealthiest communities in California, including a huge chunk from WDCW employees, to benefit kids in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country.
"This film will dispel everything one's ever assumed about Compton," stated Crandall, who will host the premiere. "Instead of showing what's wrong with the world, I tried to show what's right with it. These kids from Compton are amazing representatives of our country and Allan Guei proved that when he provided the biggest twist of the film by giving away the $40,000 prize to the seven runner's up."
When this popped into the national consciousness, a groundswell of media coverage seized on the phenomenon and included news reports throughout the world, including hits by CNN, CBS, ESPN, FOX, LA Times, NY Daily News, Toronto Star and the UK Daily Mail.
WDCW was recently featured on AMC's new "Mad Men"- inspired reality show, "The Pitch," and encourages entrepreneurship and innovation among its employees (similar to Google's 20% program). The full service ad agency has been consistently recognized by industry trade media as one of the "Best Places to Work," was a finalist for the AAAA's Mid-size Agency of the Year award, and is currently under consideration for a similar honor from Advertising Age. Current clients include Alaska Airlines, ESPN, Holland America, T-Mobile and VIZIO.
