RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Richmond Eye and Ear Healthcare Alliance is proud to announce that Richmond-native Julie Bragg has been named Community Outreach Director for Richmond Eye & Ear and Stony Point Surgery Center. Her responsibilities will include developing partnerships with other organizations to promote healthcare knowledge in the community, furthering Richmond Eye & Ear's commitment to the community and identifying future research efforts for increased attention and resources. "I am thrilled to take on this new position and expand my work and dedication to Stony Point and Richmond Eye & Ear. I have had years of experience with both organizations, and I know firsthand the invaluable services they provide to our community," says Bragg.
"We are very excited to have Julie joining the Richmond Eye & Ear/Stony Point Surgery Center team," says Bruce P. Kupper, President/CEO of Richmond Eye & Ear. "Julie brings with her instant recognition and credibility and will help us further our goals of having a positive impact upon the community and providing leadership in funding community based programs."
Whether working in television news, public relations or non-profit, Bragg's career has frequently centered around healthcare; as a reporter, she spent almost six years solely reporting on breaking health news and research. The James Madison University graduate also served as a Community Relations Specialist for Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers in Richmond and has experience in government media relations.
Bragg was the inaugural director of the W.H.E.E.L.S. program, which stands for "Where Healthy Eyes and Ears Lead to Success." W.H.E.E.L.S. is a mobile vision and hearing screening program for preschool students funded by the Richmond Eye & Ear Foundation and Stony Point Surgery Center. Managed by Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic, the W.H.E.E.L.S. program in its first year screened almost 3,000 pre-kindergarten students in the Richmond Metro area for any vision and hearing issues that would negatively impact up a child's ability to learn in the classroom.
