Statement from the Egyptian Press and Information Office on Today's Announcement by President Hosni Mubarak

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In accordance with his desire to address the legitimate demands of the protest movement of January 25th, and out of concern for the safety and security of Egypt and its citizens, President Mubarak announced today the following steps:

1-  The delegation of all his authority as President to Vice President Suleiman in accordance with the Constitution.

2-  In keeping with the commitment to pursue and implement political reforms, President Mubarak announced that he has submitted the request to amend six articles of the constitution recommended by the constitutional reform committee and which are necessary for political reform to proceed.

Having delegated his powers, the Vice President effectively assumes all powers and functions of the President to the Republic in domestic and foreign policy.
