Statement by Kathleen Marvaso, AAA Vice President of Public Affairs on Congress' Failure to Extend the Transportation Program
WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following statement was released today by AAA:
Today, Congress has let the American people down. By their inaction, funding for transportation programs across the country will be put in jeopardy next week.
The transportation system is vital to the nation's economy, safety and quality of life. It has been an important component of the overall economic recovery strategy and allowing the program to shut down, for any amount of time, is irresponsible.
Congress needs to take action early next week and extend the transportation program until the end of the calendar year. Then serious work must begin to consider a comprehensive, multi-year transportation bill.
Americans want, need and deserve a 21st century transportation system that will improve safety and mobility and aid in the economic recovery. AAA will continue to advocate for a transportation bill that focuses on results, ensures adequate funding and makes safety a key national priority.
