'Stand up for Madeline & Ovarian Cancer Research Fund' The 9th Annual Evening of Laughter in Tribute to Madeline Kahn
NEW YORK, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Joy Behar will host the 9th Annual "Stand Up For Madeline and OCRF" today, May 11, 2010, with Susie Essman, Judy Gold, Jessica Kirson, Robert Klein, James Smith, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Rich Voss and special surprise guests at Carolines on Broadway from 6:00PM-8:30PM.
Since 2002, "Standup for Madeline and OCRF" has united some of comedy's greatest talents to pay tribute to the late Madeline Kahn. Ms. Kahn lost her battle with ovarian cancer in December 1999. Caroline Hirsch, President of Carolines on Broadway, will once again generously donate her famed comedy venue for this star-studded night of comedy. Comedy greats who have lent their time and talent in the past include Lewis Black, Peter Boyle, Bill Burr, Mario Cantone, Judy Gold, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert Klein, Rosie O'Donnell, John Pinette, and Colin Quinn. Past celebrity supporters include Bette Midler, Phylicia Rashad, Edie Falco, Victor Garber, Anthony La Paglia, Christopher Meloni and Richard Belzer.
The event features a pre-show cocktail hour with an open bar and fabulous passed hors d'oeuvres. Additionally, one of the comedians acts as an auctioneer for a live auction with terrific one-of-a-kind items. In past years, "Stand Up for Madeline and OCRF" has been featured in The View, Access Hollywood, Extra, People, Magazine, US Weekly, New York Magazine, The New York Post, and New York's Daily News. Over, 250 guests are expected to be in attendance again this year.
Since its inception, "Standup for Madeline and OCRF" has raised nearly half a million dollars for OCRF's research projects. "Madeline bravely made her illness known to the public because she wanted to do everything in her power to hasten an end to this dreaded disease," says John Hansbury, Ms. Kahn's husband and OCRF Board Member. "I know she would be honored that her friends and colleagues are joining forces to make a difference in the quest to find a cure for ovarian cancer."
Tickets prices for Stand Up For Madeline and OCRF are $2,000 for Gold-level table packages for four (4), $350 for reserved Silver-Level Seating, and $200 for Bronze-Level seating. About The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund:
The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is the largest private non-profit organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to funding ovarian cancer research. Our mission is to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer. Each year there will be approximately 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer in the United States, and about 15,500 women will die of the disease. Currently there is no effective means of early detection. Since 1998, OCRF has given over $33 million for ovarian cancer research. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, OCRF sponsored researchers are developing innovative strategies for early detection; exploring the genetics that increase risk for ovarian cancer; understanding the underlying molecular biology of the disease; identifying new and better targets for treatment; and deciphering how and why ovarian cancer spreads, and how to stop it.
