Stakeholders elect ex-officio members to Board of Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority

HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stakeholders of the Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority recently elected two ex-officio members to the Authority's board of directors.

Martin Ciccocioppo of Middletown, vice president for research at the Hospital & Health Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), and Kelly Lewis of Mechanicsburg, president of the Allied HIE Company, were elected at the Authority's plenary meeting in October. Ciccocioppo will serve a two-year term and Lewis one year. They round out the board, which has 15 voting members.

"Martin and Kelly have both been long-standing stakeholders and actively engaged in advancing Pennsylvania's health care transformation," said Alix Goss, PA Health IT Coordinator. "Their role as ex-officio, non-voting members of the board is to voice their opinions and influence the direction the Board on behalf of the stakeholder community that elected them."

Ciccocioppo is responsible for research and data initiatives supporting HAP's representation and advocacy agenda. He has provided analytical and data support there for more than 25 years. He is actively involved in data and policy analyses and advocacy on issues ranging from medical professional liability, health care finance and utilization, quality reporting, managed care, economic impact, community health improvement, and health care information technology.

A former state legislator, Lewis led passage of America's first mandatory AED legislation, which placed over 3,000 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in every Pennsylvania school district, starting a national movement to place AEDs in schools and public buildings. After eight years in public office, Lewis was president of the trade group for the technology industry. Currently, he is president & CEO of AlliedHIE Company, a certified Health Information Service Provider and Direct email provider.

The PA eHealth Partnership Authority was established through legislation approved in July 2012. It is charged with creating the ability for medical providers to securely exchange medical information electronically.

Health information exchange (HIE) is the electronic movement of health-related information among unaffiliated organizations according to nationally recognized standards. Pennsylvania was awarded $17.1 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help establish a health information exchange.
