Splash Into Better Health at the New K9 Wellness Center
Dog friendly rehabilitation and wellness swim center joins the Potomac business community.
POTOMAC, Md., May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Last Saturday was a big day for Jackson, the K9 Aquatic and Wellness Center's resident dog in chief. Over 150 dog owners and 40 dogs joined him and his owner, Dominique Darcis, for the opening of her swim center honoring Jackson's brother Zeus. Zeus, a playful Black Labrador, suffered from debilitating arthritis for many months, and found immediate relief from hydrotherapy.
Hydrotherapy is an aquatic treatment that successfully takes full pressure off of a dog's joints from buoyancy counteracting gravity in the pool. It helps reduce pain, improves blood circulation, and acts as massage therapy. According to CBS News, 53% of dogs are overweight in the U.S. Swimming is a good source of exercise to address weight concerns. Modernized aquatic therapy techniques also help dogs recover much quicker from a Cruciate ligament tear or Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteomy, which is comparable to a torn ACL in humans.
This newer form of therapy is not only for injured or overweight dogs, but serves as a great way for pups to play, fetch, and work on balance at any stage of life. "Our dogs are treasured family members, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to share this incredible service that will positively impact the health of so many pups," said Darcis.
Her center is open Tuesday through Sunday. It features 5 chlorine and chemical free pools set at 80-90 degrees for optimal rehabilitation. Trained professionals, including rehab specialist, Mike Rieskamp, and local veterinarian, Dr. Tiffany Fu are on site for medical questions, weight management concerns, and injury recovery and prevention.
There are many benefits of swimming for man's best friend. Make an appointment online or call 240-683-1100 for more information.
