Sperry® To Debut Its Newest Ultra-Performance Footwear At Asia's First Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series
LEXINGTON, Mass., Nov. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sperry, creator of the world's first boat shoe, is about to change the game in competitive sailing. As an Official Partner of the 35th America's Cup, the exclusive Official Footwear Supplier of ORACLE TEAM USA and the Official Supplier of SoftBank Team Japan, Sperry will unveil its newest creation, the Sperry 7 SEAS Pro shoe, at the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series in Fukuoka, Japan this weekend. The inaugural races in Asia will complete the first stage of competition for these teams building up for the 35th America's Cup, the most prestigious and technologically demanding sailing competition in the world.
"The Sperry 7 SEAS Pro shoe is built for optimal speed, agility and grip to meet the unique demands of an America's Cup athlete," said Adam Meek, Global VP of Product for Sperry. "We took a selection of our performance-based footwear to Bermuda so that the athletes could wear them in training and give us real-time feedback on what worked well and what could be enhanced. Then, we built the silhouette from scratch and constantly wear tested it with the teams. It was this collaboration that allowed us to create the ultimate performance shoe."
With insights gleaned from ORACLE TEAM USA and SoftBank Team Japan athletes, Sperry designers infused 21st century footwear technology with innovative details to create a specialty shoe designed specifically for navigating the unpredictable race elements of salt, wind and water. Made with industry-best breathability and quick dry features, the Sperry 7 SEAS Pro sheds water and dries quickly. The fierce fit design securely cradles the foot while beastly traction elements deliver superior grip, giving sailors the surefooted confidence to leap from hull to hull at 40 knots.
"When we are competing, there are no timeouts to regroup on our next move. Every moment is relentless and every decision we make is intense," said Jimmy Spithill, skipper for ORACLE TEAM USA. "We trust in our team and our equipment, including footwear, to make every second count. We're grateful for Sperry's product development, receptivity to our input, and enthusiasm for the sport and can't wait to put the Sperry 7 SEAS shoe to its first true race test in Fukuoka."
The Sperry 7 SEAs Pro shoe will be available nationwide in Spring 2017 for consumers.

ABOUT THE AMERICA'S CUP
The America's Cup is the oldest trophy in international sport, dating back to 1851, when the yacht America, after which the trophy is named, beat the best of the British fleet in a race around the Isle of Wight, U.K. The trophy won on that day was donated in trust through a Deed of Gift and has since become a symbol of immense achievement. It is perhaps the hardest trophy in sport to win. In its 165-year history, only four countries have managed to win the America's Cup. The America's Cup is currently held by the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco. To learn more visit AmericasCup.com.
