Spectra Systems Corporation Adds a Key Japanese Patent to Its Optical Media Portfolio
PROVIDENCE, R.I., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectra Systems Corporation announced it has received a Notice of Allowance from the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office for a new patent, "System for Applying Markings to Optical Media," related to the Company's MediaCoat technology, which allows the graphical labeling of optical media across the entire play side of a disc (CD, or DVD).
The Notice of Allowance is a written communication from the patent office stating that the application has been allowed and will be granted as a Japanese patent. Patents for this invention have issued in the United States and are pending in Canada and Mexico.
Nabil Lawandy, Spectra's President and CEO commented: "The Notice of Allowance of a new patent in Japan relating to our MediaCoat technology further strengthens our overall intellectual property portfolio and the competitive advantage of our marking, labeling and authentication development pipeline – particularly in optical media since it is well positioned to support the growth of the HD Blu-ray format. Japan is a key player in the consumer electronics industry and therefore gaining this geographical expansion of IP is of great importance to us.
