Spartan Delivers the Total Package in High-Performance Products to Emergency-Response Industry
CHARLOTTE, Mich., April 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Spartan Motors Chassis, Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPAR), will set the industry standard in advanced high-performance emergency-rescue cab and chassis featuring Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified Cummins diesel engines at the Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC), which opens today in Indianapolis.
To complement the new diesel engines designed by Cummins, Spartan's Gladiator®, Metro Star® and Furion® models have been integrated with exclusive exhaust configurations to comply with strict federal diesel emission regulations that began on January 1, 2010. Significant cab and chassis advancements will also be on display April 22-24 in Spartan's exhibit (Booth #2222) at the Indiana Convention Center.
"Customers in the emergency-rescue market have a range of needs, and most of them involve high levels of capability. The technology displayed by Spartan has been developed to deliver the total package in high-performance these men and women need," said John Sztykiel, president and CEO of Spartan Motors. "As a market leader, Spartan's product and service initiatives must be responsive to the desires and budgets of departments globally. While no two departments are the same, I am confident that the value, innovation and performance of our products will surpass the expectations of the market now and in the future."
Spartan Chassis and Cummins committed a significant amount of engineering resources to the development, testing and introduction of the 2010 heavy-duty ISX and mid-range ISC and ISL engines for use in the emergency-rescue market. The engines -- with horsepower ranging from 330 to 550 -- will deliver the highest level of performance, including significantly improved efficiency and durability.
The Cummins suite of 2010 engine offerings incorporate an enhanced cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, a single VGT™ Turbocharger and the Cummins Aftertreatment System with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, providing near-zero emissions to meet EPA 2010 regulations. The Cummins engine lineup for fire & emergency applications will be on display in Booth #2030.
All engines offer best-in-class reliability, performance, fuel economy and high power-to-weight ratios. In addition, maintenance intervals are maintained for low operating costs. All of Cummins 2010 on-highway heavy-duty and mid-range engines are compatible with long-life coolants and biodiesel blends up to B20.
