Space Needle presents the 29th Annual "New Year's at the Needle"
Space Needle to light-up the night with a musically-infused Fireworks show and parties atop of the iconic structure
SEATTLE, Nov. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Seattle will celebrate the arrival of 2014 with one of the world's largest structure-launched fireworks displays as the Space Needle presents "New Year's at the Needle" for the 29th consecutive year. The show will include an original, culturally-rich score mixed by Seattle's own independent music station, KEXP 90.3 FM, for the first-time ever. The eight-minute fireworks display begins just before midnight on Tuesday, December 31, and airs exclusively on KING 5 Television.
The "New Year's at the Needle" fireworks spectacle will feature the most shots fired in the history of the show, with thousands of pyrotechnic effects being fired from 72 different locations on the structure's legs, 100' SkyLine Level, 200' platform, 520' Halo, and 605' rooftop of the iconic Space Needle.
Seattle's listener-supported radio station, KEXP 90.3 FM, will put their stamp on the show with a diverse set list reflective of the station and the city. The music mix curated by DJ Larry Rose will include:
- The xx – "Intro"
- The Ramones – "Blitzkrieg Bop"
- Band of Horses – "No One's Gonna Love You"
- Empire of the Sun – "Alive"
- Jane's Addiction – "Stop"
- Pearl Jam – "Mind Your Manners"
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – "Can't Hold Us"
"We're thrilled to be able to deepen our relationship with the Space Needle by providing the soundtrack to Seattle's biggest and best New Year's celebration," said Kevin Cole, KEXP Senior Director of Programming and host of the Afternoon Show. "The music mix will reflect the eclectic nature of KEXP—ringing in the New Year with some of the best local music alongside new international stars and KEXP favorites. Seattle, this is our party!"
More than 20,000 people are expected to gather below the Space Needle and around the Seattle Center campus. Additionally, an estimated 400,000 will view the show from surrounding neighborhoods, along with another half-million tuning-in from home, as fireworks ignite the Seattle skyline.
"Celebrating the arrival of 2014 with a fireworks show for our community is a tradition that we are very proud of here at the Space Needle," said Ron Sevart, CEO of Space Needle.
Coordinated by experts at 100-year-old Pyro Spectaculars and pyrotechnics designer Alberto Navarro, the copiously colorful fireworks display will be broadcast live on KING-TV from 11:35 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. KEXP 90.3 FM will feature the music via their live broadcast from 11:59 p.m. to 12:08 a.m. during the show Larry's Lounge.
