Sony Masterworks Wins Three Latin Grammys
BAJOFONDO WINS FOR BEST INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM AND BEST ALTERNATIVE SONG
MICHEL CAMILO WINS FOR BEST LATIN JAZZ ALBUM
NEW YORK, Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Masterworks congratulates Bajofondo and Michel Camilo on their 2013 Latin Grammy Awards.
Bajofondo won two Latin Grammys at last night's awards – one for Best Instrumental Album of the Year for album Presente (Sony Masterworks) and one for Best Alternative Song Of The Year for "Pena en Mi Corazon". Featuring Academy Award-Winning Composer/Musician, Founder and Producer Gustavo Santaolalla, Presente is an epic 21-track high-energy tour de force that blends a multitude of traditionally dichotomous genres seamlessly. Gustavo Santaolalla, winner of a Golden Globe, 2 Oscars, 2 Grammys, and now 14 Latin Grammys, describes the album as "a trip that takes you from the most magical to the most epic urban moments."
"With Presente, Gustavo Santaolalla and Bajofondo delivered an amazingly rich, diverse and seductive album. After countless accolades from the world's press, it is very gratifying to now see it receive this important recognition. Congratulations to the artists from everybody in the Sony Masterworks teams around the world," says Bogdan Roscic, President of Sony Masterworks.
Grammy, Emmy, and Latin Grammy Award winning pianist and composer Michel Camilo won for Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year for his album What's Up? (OKeh Records). Produced by Camilo, the 11 tracks on What's Up? provide a stunning demonstration of the pianist's originality, spotlighting seven original compositions and four uniquely re-arranged jazz and Latin standards. Compositions include an intimate rendition of the quintessential "Alone Together", an exploration of Cole Porter's "Love For Sale" and a deep soulful re-discovery of Compay Segundo's "Chan Chan"; as well as in Camilo's own words, "my take on the perpetual polyrhythmic intricacies of 'Take Five' – as a personal nod of admiration and awe to the legacy of legendary master Dave Brubeck."
"We at OKeh are all very happy for Michel Camilo and proud to be part of this success. For the re-launched label this is a big award and shows that we are moving in the right direction," says Wulf Muller, head of A&R for OKeh Records.
