Sony Expands EXTRA BASS™ Series Emphasizing Deep Bass Notes

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- (CES, Booth #14200) -- Sony Electronics announced today that it will expand the EXTRA BASS series to include wireless speakers and high powered audio systems. Consumers can now enjoy EXTRA BASS with the MDR-XB650BT headphones, SRS-XB3 and SRS-XB2 speakers and GTK-XB7 audio system.

This enhanced lineup enables users to enjoy the intensity of deep bass notes in a variety of locations and scenarios, just like being at an actual club or live festival.

MDR-XB650BT

The Bluetooth® compatible MDR-XB650BT headphones will allow users to experience premium sound quality with the bass booster no matter where they are. The sound technology ideally achieves deep sound at any volume level and is supported by the 30mm driver, exclusive to EXTRA BASS, which enables optimum playback of deep bass notes. Users can enjoy the benefits of the EXTRA BASS diaphragm, which boasts even higher compliance, while maintaining its properties of resistance to amplitude and atmospheric pressure, to achieve highly realistic deep bass notes.

The latest release is equipped with Touch Screen, NFC™, Bluetooth connection and music playback making device pairing easy and effortless.  Connecting the device via Bluetooth® can be completed in a single step, simply by touching a smartphone or paired device that is equipped with NFC. Even when connected wirelessly, users will still experience premium audio quality; the pair is compatible with a wide range of audio codecs including AAC and aptX®.

Sporting an optimal headband structure, the design fits any head for increased contact surface area, achieving a stable fit that can withstand the punchy and deep bass notes users are sure to hear. Further, the acoustically-tight ear pads adhere closely to the skin for superior sound isolation and excellent wearability.

SRS-XB3 and SRS-XB2

Experience EXTRA BASS with the SRS-XB3 and SRS-XB2 compact speakers with the newly developed wireless full range speaker units (42mm gauge in the SRS-XB2, 48mm gauge in the SRS-XB3). These speakers boast powerful bass notes with a light weight diaphragm, which improves sound pressure levels, and a strong magnetic circuit which drives low frequency response. Dynamically applying Sony's unique DSP signal processing technology provides rich acoustic sounds as well as punchy and deep bass notes. 

The XB2 features a passive radiator and the XB3 features dual passive radiators to augment the bass ranges, enabling the users to enjoy music that is powerful beyond their imagination. Both speakers contain LDAC™ audio coding technology developed by Sony, which allows transmission of up to around three times the data volume of existing technologies, and was the first in the world to offer audio quality in the Hi-Res class using Bluetooth Audio. Both models offer NFC and Bluetooth® connectivity, letting users connect their devices at the touch of a button. With the SRS-XB3 it is also possible to recharge a smartphone by connecting it to the USB-A port on this device via a USB cable which enables the speaker to be used like a portable battery when the user's smartphone battery is running low on power.

Use the speaker stand-alone or as a pair: the built-in Speaker Add feature enables music playback to be enjoyed by wirelessly connecting two speakers of the same type. Desktop music playback can then be enjoyed in a variety of ways, including stereo mode, where music is played back in stereo and double mode, where the same audio is played back through two speakers simultaneously.

These speakers are built to last, as they are equipped with water-resistant properties to ensure that the device will withstand splashes of water from the shower, pool, kitchen or outdoors. The lithium ion battery in the SRS-XB3, when properly charged, provides up to 24 hours of continuous wireless listening. The SRS-XB2, when properly charged, provides up to 12 hours of continuous wireless listening. The compact sizes of the speakers make them remarkably convenient for carrying around; the SRS-XB3 weighs just 930gms and is 211 x 80 x 83mm in size, the SRS-XB2 weighs just 480gms and is 191 x 62 x 65mm in size. Bring the EXTRA BASS experience home with the new high-powered audio system, perfect for rooms and large party venues. The system, equipped with the EXTRA BASS technology, is sure to provide tones that fully sound out punchy and deep bass notes and comes with two large gauge 16cm woofers to amplify the deep bass notes even more. By dynamically applying the optimal compression process to suit various signal levels, bass notes and a rich sense of acoustic pressure can be achieved all the while sustaining excellent audio quality. The GTK-XB7's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine ('DSEE') reproduces the high acoustic range of compressed sound sources to resemble the rich, original sound much more closely. Experience Sony's unique LDAC audio coding technology, which enables transmission of up to three times the data volume of conventional Bluetooth technologies. Extend the powerful sound through the Speaker Add function, allowing users to listen to music in stereo mode, where music in played back in stereo, and double mode, where the same audio is played back through two speakers simultaneously.
