Sodexo-operated Mess Hall at Parris Island Wins Top USMC Honors
Mess Hall 590 to be the first recruit mess hall to earn USMC Hill Award for Best Full Service Mess Hall at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago in May
GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodexo-operated Mess Hall 590 at Marine Corps Base Parris Island in S.C. earned the highest honor for a food service operation in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) recently when the operation was named the winner of the 2010 W.P.T. Hill Memorial Award. This marks the first time ever a recruit mess hall that serves thousands of Marine recruits everyday, three times a day has won the designation.
"This recognition from the Marine Corps is a high honor for the entire Sodexo team," said Greg Verone, president of Sodexo's Government Services division. "It is especially honorable for a recruit mess hall to be recognized with this prestigious award -- the intense pace at the recruit locations requires a well-trained staff and a commitment to excellence. It's great to see that excellence acknowledged."
The 2010 award for the "Best Full Food Service Contracted Garrison Mess Hall" will be awarded to the First Batallion Mess Hall team of General Manager Wayne Skuthan, Sons Quality Foods, and the U.S. Marines from Parris Island Base Food Service at the Joint Services Breakfast during the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show in Chicago in May.
"We strive everyday around the country to improve the quality of life for the Marines that we proudly serve," adds Verone. "We are especially proud of the service we provide at Mess Hall 590 Parris Island, as they set out on a mission to achieve excellence, and they clearly completed that mission."
The W.P.T. Hill Memorial Award, established in 1971, is an annual Marine Corps-wide competition with trophies and certificates of achievement awarded to USMC installations around the globe exhibiting foodservice excellence.
