Society of Gynecologic Oncologists to Host 42nd Annual Meeting on Women's Cancer
CHICAGO, Jan. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) will host its 42nd Annual Meeting on Women's Cancer March 6-9, 2011, at the Hilton Bonnet Creek & Waldorf Astoria Orlando in Orlando, Florida. This year's meeting will feature 278 scientific presentations in addition to lectures, workshops, symposia and postgraduate courses that focus on emerging science, clinical trials and treatment advances for physicians and health care professionals in the field of gynecologic oncology.
The comprehensive, broad range of educational programming offered at the Annual Meeting mirrors the core competencies of gynecologic oncologists -- surgical disease management, medical/oncologic/radio-therapeutic treatment, preventative medicine and scientific research. The meeting traditionally attracts medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, oncology nurses and allied health professionals who comprise the medical care team treating women with gynecologic malignancies.
"The educational programming for our 42nd Annual Meeting offers an array of new sessions that reflect our continuing efforts to elevate the level of science presented each year," says SGO President Dan Clarke-Pearson, M.D. "These sessions include not only the Plenary and Focused Plenary scientific presentations, but also a host of professional educational courses aimed at enhancing and improving practitioners' skill sets."
"As the Society's premier educational event, the meeting also provides an important forum for the exchange of ideas that impact future research and positively affect the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology," adds Dr. Clarke-Pearson. "This shared information strengthens the foundation for refined surgical techniques, additional clinical trials and multiple teaching opportunities within institutions and private practice settings alike. Ultimately, our sincere hope is that the Annual Meeting generates a renewed sense of inspiration and commitment toward our goal of improving cancer prevention and the level of care we can offer women around the world," Dr. Clarke-Pearson says.
For four decades, gynecologic oncologists have been dedicated to the care and treatment of women's cancers including ovarian, cervical, endometrial, vulvar and vaginal cancer. Gynecologic oncologists have also been leaders in conducting research and clinical trials to improve patient care standards, treatment methods, and preventative and diagnostic medicine.
As the preeminent society for these physicians, the SGO hosts its Annual Meeting to offer educational opportunities, and to spotlight the newest ideas in emerging research focused on identifying and ultimately eradicating these life-threatening cancers.
