SnagFilms Announces Mission To Honor Our Military Heroes This Memorial Day, Inspired By The Documentary HONOR FLIGHT Premiering On Cable VOD & iTunes May 14th
Initiative includes military screenings, largest Tugg screenings to date, and social media campaign
NEW YORK, May 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of the military heroes fallen or returning, or those who are still defending our freedom, SnagFilms is launching a national initiative inspired by the film HONOR FLIGHT, which includes hosted screenings throughout the month of May, theatrical screenings with Tugg and a personalized online telegram campaign, all under the banner "Honor Our Heroes".
The "Honor Our Heroes" initiative is highlighted by specialty screenings in collaboration with two of the largest military bases in the country. HONOR FLIGHT will screen for members of the armed forces, military personnel and invited guests at the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, NC on Friday, May 17 and at the Jacksonville Firefighter Hall in Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, May 23.
"The story of this film touches everyone who sees it, and we are determined to keep expanding the audience as much as possible," said Damian Benders, SnagFilms' SVP of Programming & Marketing. "All of our lives have been impacted in big and small ways by military veterans and "Honor Our Heroes" provides an opportunity to offer a personal thank you."
In what has become its most successful film to date, Tugg, Inc. (www.tugg.com) , a platform that allows people to create their own screenings at theaters, has expanded HONOR FLIGHT's traditional theatrical run from eight cities to over 80 additional cities (with more to come) through screenings of the film that are requested and hosted by local audiences. The filmmakers and Honor Flight volunteers bring new audiences to local movie theaters as WWII veterans and their communities' band together to share the film experience on the big screen and honor veterans' service.
"We feel privileged to be a part of the successful story of HONOR FLIGHT. Our vision for Tugg was to establish a platform for filmmakers to engage their audiences, wherever they may be, and it's been thrilling to see communities in cities nationwide come together to see this powerful and uplifting film," said Tugg co-founders Nicolas Gonda and Pablo Gonzalez.
Every American family has been touched in some way by our servicemen and women, and SnagFilms' Honoring Our Heroes initiative creates a personalized way to express appreciation. SnagFilms invites everyone to honor the military heroes in their own lives by sending an online telegram from their favorite social network. Visit www.facebook.com/HonorFlightTheMovie to send a personal online telegram to recognize the service of someone on active duty, in memory of a hero we've lost or to invite a loved one to share his or her story of service. Honoring a loved one is easy and users can access these custom-designed online telegrams via the Facebook page or HONOR FLIGHT's film website, http://www.honorflightthemovie.com/.
HONOR FLIGHT, produced by Freethink Media, focuses on the current lives and battlefield experiences of four living WWII veterans and the Midwest community that came together to give them the trip of a lifetime – all as part of a national effort . Volunteers race against the clock to inspire WWII veterans to tell their stories – many for the first time – and to fly thousands of them to Washington, D.C. to celebrate their service at the memorial constructed for them nearly 60 years after their epic struggle.
"Honoring our Heroes brings immediacy to the story of the 'greatest generation' – whose membership diminishes daily," said Rick Allen, CEO of SnagFilms. "We have given this special film a unique release by making community viewing possible in theaters, as well as available on VOD everywhere. There is no more fitting time to bring the film out – and to make it easy for each family to express their own appreciation."
