About 802.11
IEEE 802.11 is a family of specifications for wireless local area network (WLAN) communications in the bands from 2.4, up to 5 GHz that has continued to evolve since the official publication of the first wireless LAN standard in IEEE Std. 802.11-1997 and many subsequent enhancements. The IEEE 802.11n specification added multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and several other enhancements, and was formally adopted as IEEE Std. 802.11n-2009. More recently, the IEEE has further enhanced WLAN throughput in the 802.11ac specification.
