Keith Sweat's PLATINUM HOUSE receives a Southeast Emmy nomination for TV News and Program Specialty Excellence Arts/Entertainment Program Featured Segment and Program Special.
ATLANTA, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Southeast Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced their nominees for the 2010 Emmy© Awards for Outstanding Achievement in "Television News and Program Specialty Excellence Arts/Entertainment Program-Feature/ Segment and Program/Special," garnering a nod for the Simmons-Shelley Entertainment produced Keith Sweat's PLATINUM HOUSE for Peachtree TV (an Atlanta division of Turner Broadcasting). The nominations were held in Atlanta, Georgia, May 7th, 2010.
Simmons-Shelley Entertainment is a boutique-style film and television studio based in Atlanta, GA owned and operated by Executive Producer partners Tracey Baker-Simmons and Wanda Shelley. Simmons-Shelley Entertainment is accredited with being the pioneers of urban celeb-reality, opening doors for African-American talent and television producers in the reality television medium. In March 2009, BET.com referred to the production duo as the queens of urban reality and holding court at the top of production for females.
PLATINUM HOUSE is the brainchild of creator and Executive Producer Tracey Baker-Simmons and 90s legendary R&B crooner Keith Sweat's film and television company KEIA Productions. PLATINUM HOUSE is a reality show centered on R&B group Dru Hill making a comeback, which takes place in a mansion, a la MTV's Real World house, in Atlanta, Georgia. For the next month they must essentially re-learn how to work together again as a group-counteract and solve all the problems that ultimately led to their downfall. The remaining faces of Dru Hill – Sisqo (Mark Althavean Andrews), Nokio (Tamir Ruffin), Jazz (Larry Anthony), and new face, Tao (Antwuan Simpson), go through an intensive work regimen with the help of a licensed therapist, team-building coach, trainer and vocal coach all determined to equip them with tools to make the road to their comeback a little smoother.
Debuting as a one-hour special February 23rd, 2009 at 10PM on Peachtree TV, Keith Sweat's PLATINUM HOUSE aired top in the time spot in Atlanta to over 1.3 million households. "We were excited when we received the viewer ratings," states show creator and Executive Producer Baker-Simmons, "Viewers got a chance to see whether the musical group Dru Hill could work together and create the powerhouse group they once were and we knew that we were the right team to build this success story." Throughout the emotionally-charged special, the Peachtree audience saw the highs and lows and frustrations of trying to regain the luster of what the group once had while evoking a new kind of musical magic to make them relevant in this decade. From the departure of a group member to the entrance of a new one, Dru Hill made a perilous journey back to musical greatness.
"To be recognized by our peers at NATAS for PLATINUM HOUSE is an honor and truly humbling. This is our journey to solidify Atlanta and our company as familiar faces in the world of television and film," emphatically says Tracey Baker-Simmons. Keith Sweat's PLATINUM HOUSE will debut as a series on Centric TV Summer 2010.
