EDRA has been a distributor for Sikorsky light helicopters since 1997 and has been active in flight training and helicopter sales. The company currently operates six S-300 series helicopters for flight training and has trained about 75 percent of law enforcement pilots in Brazil, in addition to civil pilots.
Law enforcement is an important part of EDRA's helicopter business. The company sold eight S-300CBi™ helicopters to Brazil's National Security Agency (SENASP) in 2007 to support the Pan American games and is working on future sales of S-300CBi helicopters to support the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, and the Summer Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016.
"EDRA has worked hard to meet the needs of the growing helicopter market in Brazil," said Rodrigo Scoda, EDRA president. "Through flight training, EDRA has shown that Sikorsky light helicopters are proven training platforms that are versatile for patrol and other missions, such as law enforcement."
Seven state police agencies in Brazil already operate a total of 11 S-300CBi™ and S-300C™ helicopters. SENASP, in particular, will add two S-300CBi helicopters to its fleet in the first half of 2010.
"EDRA is well positioned to expand Sikorsky's light helicopter presence in Brazil," said David Oglesbee, director, Sikorsky Global Helicopters, Light Helicopter Division. "Working together, we look forward to making this a mutually successful endeavor."
The S-300CBi™ helicopter operates throughout the world primarily as a training helicopter, renowned for its excellent flight characteristics, impressive safety record, and extremely competitive operating costs. Combining these features has made the S-300CBi helicopter a leader in its class for cost- and mission-effective training.
Sikorsky Global Helicopters, a Sikorsky company, produces the S-76®, S-92®, and H-92™ helicopters as well as the S-300C™, S-300CBi™, S-333™, and S-434™ light helicopters. Its subsidiaries include Keystone Helicopter Corp. and Associated Aircraft Group (AAG).
