MUNICH, April 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the leading analytic data platforms, applications and services company announced today that Siemens AG will be able to enhance its manufacturing processes and product quality by deploying Teradata technology. For the first time, Siemens will be able to combine and analyze data from sensors, the manufacturing process, and machine data, along with data from various source systems.
"We can now recognize the value within our data more quickly and efficiently," said Dr. Michael May, Head of Technology Field Business Analytics and Monitoring. "Transforming big data into smart data will allow us to optimize the quality of our products and can provide our customers with improved service."
As a part of a company-wide initiative, the Siemens Corporate Technology group will deploy a Teradata® Unified Data Architecture™ (Teradata UDA). The unified architecture includes a Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance, a Teradata Aster Discovery Platform, and a Teradata Appliance for Hadoop. Teradata Professional Services will assist Siemens to implement the solution and integrate various data sources, as well as training.
After in-depth evaluation of relevant big data technologies on the market, Siemens decided to implement the Teradata UDA. The framework enables organizations to take advantage of the complete variety of data – both traditionally structured and new, diverse data. Depending on the analytical purpose, Siemens can combine and analyze different types of data on the most suitable platform. These systems are designed to allow for data growth and the integration of new data types. This allows for increasingly complex analytics, which will further improve strategic planning and operative processes.
"The Teradata UDA makes it possible for the company to combine industrial data, including multi-structured big data, with conventional data and analyze every possible combination," said Hermann Wimmer, president, International, Teradata. "Siemens can extract the highest value from its data and lay the foundation for further innovations."
