Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf and Spa Resort in Los Cabos to Host American Academy of Hospitality Sciences Five Star Diamond Awards Event

LOS CABOS, Mexico, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Academy of Hospitality Sciences - the world's premiere organization for awarding excellence in travel, cuisine, luxury products, and services - will recognize the top 50 restaurants in Mexico at its annual Star Diamond Awards celebration on April 24 at Pitahayas Restaurant at the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf and Spa Resort in Los Cabos.  

Topping the list of recipients this year is the event's host hotel.  Of eight restaurants in the Los Cabos area receiving the organization's prestigious Five Star Diamond Award, Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar is home to two of them – Pitahayas, which will receive the award for the 12th consecutive year, and De Cortez, which will be recognized for the second consecutive year.  This is the first time that the awards celebration will be held in Los Cabos, which was selected because of its rapidly escalating culinary scene.

Pitahayas features "Pacific Rim" cuisine fusing flavors from Far East countries and others that touch the Pacific Ocean.  Chef Volker Romeike has served as Executive Chef of the restaurant since its opening in 1999. Pitahayas has also received the AAA 5 Diamond Award for eleven consecutive years.

De Cortez Restaurant features steak and fresh seafood dishes in a relaxed oceanfront atmosphere.  The restaurant's chef, Stefan Bunning, has been with Sheraton Hacienda del Mar for many years, previously serving the Sheraton brand in Argentina, Peru and the United States.
