ShangPin.com Launches Lanvin's China E-Flagship Store to Expand into New Online "Shopping Mall" Business Model
China's first online full priced Designer & Contemporary Fashion Retailer to host e-flagships of leading fashion brands for its affluent customer base.
BEIJING and NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ShangPin, China's first online retailer for authorized designer and contemporary fashion today announced the launch of Lanvin's China e-flagship store to be hosted on Shangpin.com as the retailer expands its business as an online shopping mall with shop-in-shop "E-Flagship" stores.
The Lanvin E-Flagship is an independent e-flagship store hosted on the ShangPin.com site with a curated selection of Men's and Women's clothing, bags, accessories and shoes.
In September 2012, ShangPin made fashion history in China by being the first online fashion retailer to sell full priced designer and contemporary fashion with its unmatched high-end customer base and average sale of RMB 2000 (USD 330). ShangPin currently has close to 8 million customers with sales in over 400 cities and reaching deep into the heart of China.
"We are thrilled and honored that Lanvin, the world's oldest fashion house, will launch its China E-Flagship on ShangPin.com," said David Zhao, Founder and CEO of ShangPin. "Our unique online position in China enabled us to be pioneers and move into the full priced fashion retailing last year. This new service was launched to meet the demands of brands who prefer to market and sell their collections in their own branded environment. Chinese online consumers prefer to shop on "platforms" with multiple brands and a large selection of merchandise," explained Zhao. "Our innovation allows for brands to benefit from our high end traffic and marketing synergies of all our brand partners. The brand can maintain their own independent branded stores that is separated from the brands in our own multi-branded retail area. Chinese consumers love to browse and shop by category so we have translated that preference to create an online shopping mall experience."
According to CLSA's recent report on China's e-commerce market, B2C shopping in China will shortly surpass the USA. Within a space of just three years, the total value of B2C online sales in China has leapt from US$ 3 billion to US$ 64 million with more than 89% year on year sales growth.
Lily Liu, General Manager of Lanvin China, added, "Lanvin conducted more than two years research into the Chinese online market before concluding that a partnership with ShangPin was the best way to enter online in China. We are excited to partner with ShangPin, with their VIP customer base, exceptional customer service, and capacity to reach affluent customers in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities where we still not have opened stores. In addition to distribution, the power of digital marketing and social media in China is a very important tool to use to create brand awareness and drive sales and that is an added value service that ShangPin will provide to us."
Creating an online shopping experience suited to Chinese consumer taste
While full priced online retailers have existed for more than 10 years in the West, ShangPin is first in China. The Chinese fashion consumers are still learning about brands and experimenting with their own style, says M. Claire Chung, Vice President of Global Business Development. We are adding the new "flagship" model in order to offer a wider mix of brands from fast fashion to luxury. We need to present the e-consumer a diverse brand offering as consumers evolve quickly and "buy up."
