SGS and ENVIRON Launch New RoHS Compliance Assessment Service Using BOMcheck at Texas SMTA Conference and Provide Exclusive Webinar on November 6
FORTWORTH, Texas, October 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
With revenues and reputations at stake, manufacturers, importers and distributors of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) are focussed on minimizing the risk that product sales are stopped and/or products are recalled due to non-compliance with requirements in the RoHS2 Directive 2011/65/EC. To reduce the pressure on EEE manufacturers and importers, SGS (http://www.sgs.com), the global leader in chemical testing and certification services, and ENVIRON, manager of the http://www.BOMcheck.net industry-led materials declarations web database service, have today launched the RoHS Compliance Assessment Service Using BOMcheck at a seminar on EU RoHS compliance collocated with the SMTA International Conference and the IPC Fall Standards Development Meetings in Fort Worth, Texas. The seminar also included a presentation from UK RoHS2 Regulator Chris Smith on "RoHS2 Compliance and Enforcement".
The new service uses the EN 50581 European Standard and enables companies to comply with the RoHS2 regulatory requirements for Technical Documentation and CE Declaration of Conformity to achieve market access in a cost effective manner. SGS and ENVIRON will provide free webinars on November 6 at 3.00pm Central European Time and 10.00am US Pacific Time to highlight the business benefits.
In December 2012 the EN 50581 European Standard was officially endorsed by the European Commission as an approved method for compliance with RoHS2 Technical Documentation requirements. Although EN 50581 is a voluntary standard, most companies choose to follow this approved method. Chris Smith's presentation at the seminar confirmed that RoHS2 regulators expect companies who chose not to use EN 50581 to demonstrate that their Technical Documentation is at least as robust.
SGS offers RoHS Compliance Assessment Services to companies who join BOMcheck, the industry collaboration led by Philips, Siemens, GE, Osram, Sony Mobile, Schneider Electric, Toshiba, Agfa, Texas Instruments and TE Connectivity to share one web database to manage supply chain compliance with the EU REACH Regulation, RoHS2 Directive and other regulated substances in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. SGS can support EEE companies in building a risk-based approach to manage parts, supplier data, and to identify and fill information gaps. SGS experts can train suppliers to upload their declarations into BOMcheck and attach test reports as required. Additional options of the service include validation of supplier materials declarations and test reports within BOMcheck as well as downloading the BOMcheck PDF reports for a product's bill of materials (BOM), to generate the EN 50581 Technical Documentation for RoHS2 compliance.
"This new service provides significant cost-effective benefits to EEE manufacturers, suppliers and importers" said Nicole Effenberger, Business Unit Manager at SGS Consumer Testing Services. "Leveraging the global reach of the BOMcheck web database to provide a documented closed loop system to manage materials data from suppliers provides compelling business advantages for companies who need to demonstrate compliance to substance regulations" agreed Aidan Turnbull, BOMcheck Director at ENVIRON.
Join one of the free webinars on Tuesday November 6 to find out how your company can gain advantage from the business benefits. The webinars will be held at 9.00am US Eastern Time (3.00pm Central European Time, 4.00pm UK time) and at 10.00am US Pacific Time.
