SentosaCare's Benjamin Landa and the Philipson Family Announce Major Investment in the Redevelopment of Woodmere Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Woodmere, NY
WOODMERE, N.Y., Sept. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Benjamin Landa of SentosaCare, an organization formed to service, guide and assist affiliated nursing home facilities in fulfilling their commitment to quality health care, and the Philipson family, today announced a $90 million personally secured investment in the Woodmere Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Woodmere, NY.
According to Benjamin Landa, the new facility, a 184,000 square foot building being constructed at the corner of Franklin Place and Central Avenue in Woodmere, will replace the 45-year old building we now rent at 121 Franklin Place, directly next to construction site. "The new center is being designed and equipped to be the premier rehabilitation and health care facility in New York State. It will house 280 patients and provide the most modern rehabilitation and health care services available," Landa said.
The new building is expected to be completed in about 2 years, at which time the 150 patients in the current facility will be moved to the new center and they will be joined by an additional 130 new patients. The new facility will offer patients almost double the living space that exists in the current facility, with both private and two-resident living quarters available. The new facility will no longer house three residents to a room.
"Instead of taking the easy, and some might say, less burdensome road of renegotiating our current lease which expires in about four years, my partners and I decided to make a threshold decision to design and construct a state-of-the-art facility that promises our patients, their families and our staff a commitment to a 21st century health care experience as opposed to a commitment to the best of what could be offered in a 20th century building," Mr. Landa explained.
"Woodmere is a robust and thriving community on the south shore of Long Island. Our new facility signals my partners' and my pledge to a neighborhood we have served for many years and to the residents of the greater Five Towns who we look forward to serving for generations to come," said Ben Landa.
With completion of the new building expected in 2017, Woodmere Rehabilitation and Health Care Center will offer specialized services, including: vent unit therapy; in-house dialysis; physical therapy; occupational therapy; speech therapy; wound care; colostomy, ileostomy and gastrostomy tube care; tracheostomy care; respiratory therapy, IV therapy; oxygen therapy; alzheimer and dementia care; hospice services; pain management; and psycho-social services.
Mr. Landa bought his first nursing home in 1987 and since that time, he and Ben Philipson have built Sentosa into the largest nursing home network in the state of New York. The facilities in the Sentosa network provide care to thousands of residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering specialized care and both short- and long-term rehabilitation in addition to a myriad of other skilled nursing services in locations throughout the New York metropolitan area.
