Senior Star Arrives at Kenwood
Tulsa-based company assumes operation of 288-unit, premier senior living community located on Kenwood Road.
CINCINNATI, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Thomas, co-owner of Tulsa-based Senior Star Living, announced today that the company has finalized a long-term agreement with Toledo-based Health Care REIT, Inc. (NYSE: HCN) to lease and operate the senior living community formerly known as The Stratford at Kenwood. Located on the bluffs of the Ohio River Valley in Northeast Cincinnati, the development includes a 15-story tower and one three-story residential building. The community will be known as "The Kenwood by Senior Star."
According to George Chapman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Health Care REIT, the strategic alignment with Senior Star is grounded in a relationship developed over several years and helps to assure the success of this just-completed, premier senior community. "The Kenwood is not only the top of its class in physical attributes in Cincinnati, but it is one of the highest quality retirement communities in the entire country." Health Care REIT owns a portfolio worth $6.7 billion in health care real estate including senior living communities located throughout the country.
Working on The Kenwood will bring Health Care REIT and Senior Star together for the third time. "The Kenwood will have a focus on excellence and service that will match the attention to detail and quality in the construction of this 'best in class' facility," continued Mr. Chapman. "When it comes to integrity, work ethic and a passion for superior care and service, we believe Senior Star is one of the best operators in the country."
Residents started moving in on the first of July and will continue throughout the month. "We're looking forward to meeting our new residents at The Kenwood," remarked Senior Star's Mr. Thomas. "They will find we have one immediate and long-term focus: surpassing their expectations by doing our very best to recognize unspoken needs and meeting those needs when ever possible."
Recalling Senior Star's 20+ year history of helping seniors and their families, Mr. Thomas explained the company's passion for creating caring communities: "At Senior Star, we try very hard to ensure that each resident gets the individual attention it takes to create a satisfying and fulfilling experience. It's through these relationships with the discerning residents who make The Kenwood their home that we will establish a wonderful sense of community and place."
The 288-unit community provides the full continuum of care from independent living to skilled nursing facilities. Physical amenities include exercise and recreational facilities, fine dining options (including a wine cellar) and a variety of cultural and educational programs.
Since the early 1990's Senior Star has operated retirement communities in both Toledo and Dublin, Ohio. The Kenwood will operate like Senior Star's other senior living residences with monthly rental payments. Rates depend on both the living quarters selected and the care services required by the residents.
"We believe that a rental-based community will provide residents and their families financial flexibility," explained Anja Rogers, Executive Vice President of Senior Star. "Further, it will allow us to develop custom-tailored agreements that meet the needs of individual residents and their families."
Other Senior Star residents living at the company's Dublin, OH community would agree. Several of them and their family members made the trip to Cincinnati last week to welcome current depositors waiting to move in to The Kenwood property. Mr. Thomas and other key members of the company's management team were also in Cincinnati for the get together.
"We thought it was important that people start to understand who Senior Star is and how we're different from any other company in the senior housing market," he explained. "We're all about senior living; not senior housing."
