DALLAS, Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigations, corrections and monitoring, announced today that it has officially brought to market the first inmate facing operating system of its kind to correctional agencies.
ConnectUs changes the way inmates access communications services within a correctional environment. Built on proprietary technology and the most advanced, easy to use design, ConnectUs brings simple but powerful applications to both Corrections Administrators and Inmates. ConnectUs allows Securus to host Phone Calls, Video Visitation, Inmate Forms, Grievances, Videos, Commissary Ordering, 3rd party website access, job applications, education programs and any number of services.
Richard A. "Rick" Smith, CEO of Securus Technologies said, "These applications provide those incarcerated with a multitude of services never seen before in corrections, through corrections grade, multi-purpose, touch screen hardware terminals or our SecureView inmate tablets. These inmate services must reside on an operating system that gives corrections agencies the control they demand and operational efficiencies they need. ConnectUs completely manages an inmate's experience; what applications are available, when they are available, and even when scheduled activities such as video visitation are about to occur."
While other providers offer only one application or hardware that are not touch screens, ConnectUs serves up multiple applications, allowing inmates to interact with the screen so they may file grievance requests and view responses on demand. It also allows inmates to multitask such as conduct video visitation sessions while checking commissary balances in real time.
Smith continued, "With feedback from our customers, Securus recognized the need to provide software technology that automated manual operating processes while providing inmates with new services that ultimately reduce the inconvenience of incarceration for both. In addition, experience with modern applications will help inmates adjust to the world when they are released, critical issues for reducing recidivism."
Over the past several years, Securus has invested over $32 million dollars and installed over 5,000 terminals to provide inmate and correctional services through unlimited applications that expand visitation opportunities, automate inmate requests and grievances, and bring educational content online.
"The opportunities to improve inmate communications, improve security for all, to make processes more efficient are staggering. Friends/Family and Inmates can save in excess of $2 billion per year and the corrections industry can save in excess of $1.5 billion per year – and lives saved – certainly a noble challenge for all of us," said Smith.
