DALLAS, Nov. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced today that it has completed construction, testing, and successful cutover of the nation's largest video visitation platform that includes over 600 in county state-of-the-art terminals.
"Securus, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, and the Maricopa County Government completed this installation flawlessly – it represents the largest single deployment of a corrections video visitation platform in the United States," said Richard A. ("Rick") Smith. "Both organizations worked together over an extended period of time to change the way video visitations are conducted in a positive way. The Securus Video Visitation System will allow anyone from anywhere in the world to visit any inmate in the Maricopa County Sheriff's jails, including those housed at Tent City."
"This visitation technology will dramatically increase jail security and efficiency by changing the way visits occur between incarcerated inmates and their friends and family members. They now can visit a jailed inmate from the comfort of their homes via a simple internet connection," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona. "Many of those incarcerated in the Maricopa County jail system are not from the immediate area – so this system allows them to connect to inmates from ANYWHERE in the world, let me repeat – from ANYWHERE in the world! That is a huge benefit for those families that have a person in jail here and that want to reach out to them – that communication is important to them, to inmates and all of society – no matter where they are," said Arpaio.
"Securus installed the video platform at no expense to Maricopa County taxpayers – that was an important threshold issue for me and Securus came through for us by making an investment that exceeded $2.4 million AND the system will eventually generate revenue for the Inmate Services Fund (ISF) as well. ISF provides educational programs for inmates – and with that education, the inmates have a better chance of being productive members of society and not returning to one of our jails. That improvement in recidivism saves us money – and I like that," said Arpaio.
