Secret Cinema Heads For The International Stage
NEW YORK, July 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Secret Cinema, an innovative group that has created a cultural phenomenon in the UK, officially announces its international expansion. The group produces large-scale productions where entire buildings are transformed into the world of a film with audiences taking part in the story. The original and completely immersive cultural experiences fuse film, music, theater, and replicate set installations. The Secret Cinema experience always contains a level of mystery and secrecy where fiction and reality blur. In 2007, Secret Cinema, founded by Fabien Riggall, pioneered a new format in Cinema by introducing site-specific hyper-socially integrated entertainment. Breaking films and recently, music albums and marrying narratives with real life, Secret Cinema is a unique participatory social experience. Secret Cinema is passionate about developing a new cultural landscape where actors' performances blend with audience participation and is determined to reset a sense of mystery, romance and adventure in our ever-increasing automated world.
To date, Secret Cinema has staged over 45 productions in the UK. The group has different branches of production including, Secret Cinema Tell No One, which does not reveal the location, or the film ahead of time and Secret Cinema Presents, where the title is released.
Past productions include One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest staged in an abandoned hospital, Shawshank Redemption set in a school that was transformed into a prison, and Blade Runner in a series of warehouses at Canary Wharf. They have also staged exclusive pre release experiences with Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel. In 2014, over 80,000 people attended the much-heralded production of Secret Cinema presents Back to the Future. Most recently, Secret Cinema launched Secret Cinema X presenting 'Amy', the Amy Winehouse Doc. Secret Cinema's expansion and growth is due to become a global screening experience promoting vital and independent cinema.
Currently, Secret Cinema is presenting Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is London through September. The richly galactic space opera opened in the first week of June with such great success that it locked into the top 5 position in the British box-office ranking, 35 years after its release. http://www.secretcinema.org/trailers
"Secret Cinema has always looked to push the boundaries of the cultural experience. We believe passionately that the way we experience cinema, music and other art forms could be dramatically different, catapulting independent artists and social integration. It is time to let audiences enter the heart of the work and become a part of the story. We are excited to take Secret Cinema into new cities around the world and look forward to creating a global community that believe in a more secret world," shared Fabien Riggall, Founder & Artistic Director, Secret Cinema.
This year, Secret Cinema officially set up shop in the United States. The organization is currently planning productions in multiple American cities. To date, over 350,000 people have attended Secret Cinema events.
