SEC Porn Problem Far Worse Than Report Claims, Says Expert
Author Warns Investigation Missed Over 100 Undetected Porn Addicts
WASHINGTON, April 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Michael Leahy, recovering porn addict and author of "Porn Nation" and "Porn@Work," is convinced we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the true scope of the SEC's porn problem.
"The investigation only found 31 serious offenders during the past two and a half years," Leahy states. "That's less than 1% of the agency's 3,500 employees who just happened to get caught using porn at work. I think it's safe to say these blatant offenders are addicts."
But recent studies estimate about 4% to 6% of the population is addicted to porn and sex. "That means there are at least another 100 to 150 more porn addicts still working at the SEC who went undetected during the original investigation. And that's a problem."
Fixing the SEC's Porn Problem
"Fixing this problem at the SEC isn't going to be easy, and it won't happen overnight," admits Leahy, who's been in recovery for 13 years. "But getting it out in the open and talking about it is the first step, along with understanding the true scope of the problem."
The next step is putting systems in place that hold everyone accountable while offering real help for those who struggle but want to get well. "We do that today for alcoholics and drug addicts through EAP programs at work. Why shouldn't we offer the same level of support to sex and porn addicts who want to get well?"
