Season 2 REPLAY Documentary to Air Nationally on FOX Sports Net
High School Hockey Powerhouses Seize Chance of a Lifetime to Replay '99 Game that Ended In a Tie Due to a Dramatic Injury
CHICAGO, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Gatorade and FOX Sports Net (FSN) have teamed together for a second season of the award-winning, original program, REPLAY. The popular program documents how Gatorade re-stages classic games between some of the nation's biggest high school sports rivalries years after they were originally played. This season, Gatorade reunited two of Michigan's top high school hockey programs – the Trenton Trojans and the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks – who were unable to finish their second match up of the 1999 season after a life threatening injury forced an early end to the game with the score tied, 4-4.
On Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. across all time zones (check local listings), FSN affiliates nationwide will premiere the one-hour special. FSN documented the players from their first grueling training sessions with the Gatorade Training Council, to their Gatorade Pro Days with honorary coaches Scotty Bowman and Brendan Shanahan, to the drop of the puck by Gatorade REPLAY game day commissioner, hockey legend Gordie Howe, to the post-game locker room celebrations. Viewers will also learn about the players, their lives and why they chose to return to the ice with their old teammates for a full-contact game despite the passing of a decade.
"Gatorade REPLAY is all about second chances and keeping with that tradition we have another great group of athletes who saw an opportunity, grabbed it, and came together in the name of sport and competition. They were able to prove that once you're an athlete, you're always an athlete," said Sarah Robb O'Hagan, chief marketing officer of Gatorade. "Gatorade as a brand is about heart, hustle and soul, and these guys showed all of that and more throughout the training for their long-awaited rematch."
To get ready for their once-in-a-lifetime rematch, the Trenton and CC players participated in a customized 8-week training and nutrition program developed in partnership with the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) and implemented with the help of professionals from Velocity Sports Performance – Canton, Mich.
Gatorade REPLAY fans can learn more about the program by visiting www.replaytheseries.com, the official home of REPLAY. Visitors to the site can also check out the first season of REPLAY that featured one of the nation's biggest high school football rivalries between the Easton Area Red Rovers and the Phillipsburg Stateliners.
