LITTLETON, Colo., May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SCL Health is pleased to announce the opening of a fully licensed community hospital to serve the health care needs of Southwest Denver, Littleton and surrounding communities. To celebrate, SCL Health is hosting a ribbon-cutting event for media and community leaders, and a free barbecue for the community and local first responders.
The new hospital will provide the premier and innovative health care services patients typically expect to find in larger hospitals, but conveniently located right in their own neighborhoods. It is one of four such hospitals SCL Health is building in partnership with our national partner, Texas-based Emerus.
The two-story, 37,080-square-foot SCL-Health Community Hospital-Southwest offers, in a small, neighborhood setting, a wide range of comprehensive health care services. These include emergency medical care, inpatient care, and a diverse range of surgical procedures available in two state-of-the-art operating rooms. Among other comprehensive services, the facility offers an on-site laboratory and radiology services.
For the media:
On May 25, tours of the new facility will be offered. Tours begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
For first responders and the community:
A free barbecue for first responders, family and community members will be held at noon, May 28, at the new hospital site, 8515 W. Coal Mine Ave. The family friendly celebration will include live music, inflatables, photo booths and face painters For more information, visit SCLHealthCommunity.org/events
"SCL Health is proud of our history providing high quality, compassionate care for the Denver community from the city's first beginnings," said SCL Health President and CEO Mike Slubowski. "Today, we are pleased to offer our services to Southwest Denver and the Littleton area. We invite you to experience the kind of care, commitment and passion that has earned us national recognition and helped define us for generations."
SCL Health, a faith-based nonprofit health system, and Emerus, a national provider of medical care, have formed a joint venture to build and manage the four community hospitals. Indianapolis-based commercial real estate developer Duke Realty is developing all of the new facilities. In addition to Littleton, community hospitals in Aurora and Northglenn are scheduled to open later this year. A community hospital in Westminster has already opened.
Dr. Toby Hamilton, CEO of Emerus, said, "We are honored to partner with SCL Health, which shares our vision of providing advanced health care in a community hospital where patients are valued and appreciated. We are excited about the greatly improved access to medical services we are bringing to Denver-area residents. With this improved access, health risks can be more quickly detected and addressed, and early symptoms can be treated before a disease worsens. That's why this hospital, located in the Littleton community where residents live, work and play, is so important."
Among the emergencies the new community hospital is equipped to treat are strokes, overdoses, allergic reactions, altered mental status, asthma and breathing problems, burns, chest pain and heart attacks, dehydration, head injuries, pneumonia, seizures, sprains and broken bones.
