Schneider Electric Announces Commitment to Accelerating Global Climate Action by 2017
Company Joins Clean Energy Ministerial in Campaign to Spur ISO 50001 Adoption; Recognized as Energy Management Leader with Inaugural Insight Award
SAN FRANCISCO, June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, today announced its climate action commitment in support of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Energy Management Campaign, a new global effort focused on accelerating the rate of ISO 50001 adoption, an international energy management standard designed to help organizations better manage energy. The program's goal to reach 50,001 global certifications by 2020 is a key mechanism for voluntary climate action and the focal point of the 7th Clean Energy Ministerial in San Francisco on June 2.
As part of Schneider Electric's ongoing effort to providing innovative solutions that help reduce carbon emissions, while enhancing access to quality energy, the company has pledged the following commitments:
- Managing and improving energy performance, including ISO 50001 certification, in 150 facilities globally by 2017
- Providing subject matter expert input to the Department of Energy (DoE), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and to the CEM's technical exchange on how corporations and industrial facilities can best achieve ISO 50001 certification
- Promoting international best practices in energy management, ISO 50001 certification, and Superior Energy Performance (SEP) to Schneider Electric customers
"Energy management is part of our DNA at Schneider Electric, and we continue to be strongly committed to reducing our energy and CO2 footprint through our behavior, processes, technology and use of our own products," said Prith Banerjee, Chief Technology Officer, Schneider Electric. "The ISO 50001 and SEP frameworks not only build upon our energy management systems, but also help us drive consistency and performance improvements across our locations, allowing us to serve as a role model for our customers and other private sector companies."
As part of today's event, Schneider Electric was recognized by the Clean Energy Ministerial with the inaugural Insight Award in recognition for actively transforming its organization with ISO 50001. The Insight Award honors organizations that use ISO 50001-certified energy management systems and is designed to help raise global awareness of the benefits of energy management and the broad implementation of these proven systems to help meet organizational, national, and global energy and climate goals.
Schneider Electric has also committed to achieving a 10 percent reduction in energy consumption, 10 percent in CO2 savings from internal transportation and securing zero waste to landfill certification in 100 Schneider facilities. The company is a U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings Challenge Partner and a leader in the Superior Energy Performance (SEP) program in North America with a record 16 facilities achieving energy savings between five and 30 percent.
