S&C Continues History of Innovation With Smart Grid Strategies Director
New hire to lead the charge in transforming the electric power grid as company celebrates its Centennial Anniversary
CHICAGO, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- S&C Electric Company, a Smart Grid leader shaping the future of reliable electric delivery, today announces the appointment of its new Global Smart Grid Strategies Director, Michael Edmonds. Over its nearly 100-year history, S&C has been driving innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of its customers and Edmonds' appointment is further validation of S&C's commitment to continuing this innovation.
Edmonds brings to S&C many years of industry experience and in this role he will drive the strategies that will continue expanding the company's portfolio of Smart Grid solutions. Edmonds, who was most recently Vice President and General Manager of Siemens Energy and Automation, will provide strategic direction and identify partnerships to enhance S&C's offerings.
"As we celebrate our centennial year, we are proud of the solutions we've created to shape the electric power grid of the 20th century and excited to be at the forefront of innovation for the Smart Grid of the 21st century," said John Estey, S&C President & CEO. "Mike understands the challenges involved in successfully deploying the Smart Grid and will play a critical role in shaping the technologies needed to maintain our leadership position. We're honored to have him join our team."
S&C started as a company with a breakthrough invention, the Liquid Power Fuse, and has since led the development of solutions that are shaping the emerging smart distribution grid, including IntelliRupter® PulseCloser and most recently, S&C's self-healing IntelliTEAM SG™ Automatic Restoration System. These technologies are playing a critical role in the increasingly complex and dynamic distribution grid as utilities work to integrate renewable energy sources, address peak loading issues, and manage the demand aberrations of plug-in electric vehicles.
S&C also continues to invest in R&D to support the Smart Grid, and today announces new, lower pick-up ratings for its TripSaver™ Dropout Recloser product. TripSaver is an award-winning Smart Grid product that provides additional intelligence on distribution lines to minimize outage durations for consumers. The new ratings expand the range of applications for the product.
"S&C's pioneering innovations for the Smart Grid—including self-healing distribution systems, energy storage integration and communications solutions—are shaping the intelligent grid of the future," said Michael Edmonds, Global Smart Grid Strategies Director at S&C. "It's my mission to continue S&C's successful track record by identifying ways for S&C to innovate and expand its solution set to ensure reliability of the complex electricity distribution grid."
